The opportunity came when I started singing to record the first album at the Gathers Studio C in Alexandria, IN.

I was blessed to have had that experience.

I then met a sweet couple who made way for me to go to Nashville, Tennessee, and sign with a Christian Label. I was BMI-licensed and had a music lawyer review the paperwork beforehand. We had an early morning breakfast meeting with the individual with the record label and his wife. (so I thought because the personal contact they were having was touch-feely to an extreme)

Don’t ever be deceived by the word “Christian” because it does not always exemplify Christ.

That evening, the music producer, publisher, and, again, the man who owned the label sat with us as we were to sign papers along, with the precious couple who would pay for my record deal. We all talked around the conference table, but this time, his real wife was sitting with him, not his secretary. It’s funny how different he was with his wife. He was very uninterested.

Halfway through the signing process, I couldn’t compromise and sign.

So there I was, was I shattered? No

I was obeying the Father God.

That sweet couple was taken aback, but eventually, they understood.

Oh, by the way, He knew why I would not compromise.

You play in the dirt, and you get dirty.

So stay out of the mud, or you’ll have mud on your face.

The drive back

I could hear everyone talking.

Why would she turn that down? They probably didn’t think she was good enough.

Amid all these negative thoughts, the Spirit of God spoke this into my heart.

“What do you care about what people think about you? I created you for a divine purpose that may not always please others.

He’s always giving me scripture confirmation when I need it.

I got home and turned right to,

Isaiah 55, verses 8, 9,

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the Lord.

For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.

As I prayed and sought the Lord’s purpose in all of this, I found perfect peace because it is much easier to please the Father God than people who may even have your best interest at heart.

Verse 11 sums it up

11 So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to Me void [without producing any effect, useless], but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Looking back, I see that my obedience to being sent for purpose pleases the Lord.
