A look at Proverbs 4 and the history of Valentine’s Day. Also, 1 Corinthians 6:18 for we are to flee sexual immorality.
Proverbs 4:23
23 Above all else, guard your heart, for out of it flows the issues of life.
“Above all else”, What comes next? The place where you are to guard. Yes, keep watch over your own heart. That’s where your new life started with salvation. You have a clean heart; now keep it clean.
We will get back to Proverbs, but let’s look at the history of Valentine’s Day. I’ve tried to sum it all up here.
Where did Valentine’s Day originate from? The history of the holiday—and the story of its patron saint as told by the Catholic Church is shrouded in mystery. St. Valentine’s Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Saints Day Catholic Church and the ancient Romans celebrated a pagan festival of fertility. No Christian is to celebrate a pagan deity. The very essence of Valentine’s Day of our childhood has lost its innocence, and through the years, it’s become commercialized, losing its sweet giving of friendship and love.

Our Culture has turned Valentine’s Day into Sex Day. Valentine’s Day sees a noticeable increase in sexual activity among the non-married.
Read this section of the truth.
1 Corinthians 6:18 A command for sexual purity among Christians: Flee sexual immorality.
Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body.
Flee sexual immorality: Paul is speaking here, and he does not say that Christians should flee sex, only sexual immorality. God gave sex as a precious gift to one man and one woman bound in covenant before Him and uses it powerfully to bond husband and wife together in a genuine one-flesh relationship. So, as Hebrews 13:4 says, the marriage bed is undefiled – the sexual relationship between husband and wife is pure, holy, and right before God.
1 Corinthians 6:18-20
The Message
16-20 There’s more to sex than mere skin on skin. Sex is as much spiritual mystery as physical fact. As written in Scripture, “The two become one.” Since we want to become spiritually one with the Master, we must not pursue the kind of sex that avoids commitment and intimacy, leaving us more lonely than ever—the kind of sex that can never “become one.” There is a sense in which sexual sins are different from all others. In sexual sin we violate the sacredness of our own bodies, these bodies that were made for God-given and God-modeled love, for “becoming one” with another. Or didn’t you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don’t you see that you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body.
Biblical truths are life to all who find them: God’s Word communicated through us as we speak them to our children and all who will listen.
For His Words bring life and healing.
