As I drove across the Blue Bridge today, the one I crossed over when going to town, my heart swelled with gratitude. The sky above was a canvas of divine artistry, painted with blue that matched the Blue Bridge and those hues of grey puffy clouds. I snapped a picture, capturing this moment. I knew it was from the Creator.
I call it my Blue Bridge of Inspiration.
Each time I cross it, I feel a spark ignite within me, peering over to see the River flowing; it’s waiting to be noticed. That river flows beneath; it’s a symbol of life’s currents, and with every step I take, I am reminded that inspiration often lies just beyond the bridge, ready to guide me into new horizons.
Blue has a profound significance that draws us closer to God’s heart. It is a color that declares holiness and hope. Just look up at the sky.
Luke 21:28 (Amplified Bible)
28 Now when these things begin to occur, stand tall and lift up your heads [in joy], because [suffering ends as] your redemption is drawing near.”
Throughout the Scriptures, blue emerges as a symbol of Heaven itself. It mirrors the vastness of the sky, reminding us of the divine realm beyond our earthly existence. In Exodus 24:10, we catch a glimpse of this heavenly vision when Moses and the elders beheld the Almighty. They described it as, “Under His feet was the likeness of sapphire brickwork, and it was like the essence of the heaven in purity.” Can you imagine the purity and beauty of that scene? It paints a picture of a majestic and intimately involved God in our lives.
Further along in Revelation 21:19, we are reminded that blue will grace the foundations of the New Jerusalem. Each foundation will be adorned with exquisite jewels, and sapphire blue will stand among them. What a glorious promise! This is not just a city; it reflects God’s splendor and love for His people.
Blue is rich with meaning. It signifies the river of God, flowing with healing and sanctification. It represents His law, grace, and the revelations He gives to guide us.
Sky and water are the two elements we can not live without or within.
Blue sky and water are two elements that we cannot live without. But they are also two elements that we cannot live in. Picture yourself in the middle of the ocean without a boat or in the middle of the sky without an airplane. What would you immediately think? “God help me!”
Consider the tzitzit and the fringes worn on the Priestly garment as reminders to follow God’s commandments. Yes, Jesus wore a garment with tzitzit, or tassels, on the four corners of his outer robe:
- Matthew 9:20: A woman with a 12-year discharge of blood touched the hem of Jesus’ garment and was immediately healed.
- Matthew 14:36: and they (the sick) begged Him to let them merely touch the fringe of His robe; and all who touched it were perfectly restored.
- Mark 6:56: And wherever He came into villages, or cities, or the countryside, they were laying the sick in the market places and pleading with Him [to allow them] just to touch the fringe (tassel with a blue cord) of His robe; and all who touched it were healed.
Blue reminds us of the ocean, lakes, rivers, and the sky. These are two elements that we cannot live without.
In a world filled with distractions, let blue be our call to action, a gentle reminder to obey His commandments and embrace His grace. May it inspire us to reach for the heavens while remaining firmly anchored in His truth, knowing His love is present in every shade of blue, guiding us home.
