The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” —John5:8

Wind in your  Sails means to be confident or on a roll. To be fired up/passionate about something.

We’ve all heard, or maybe you’ve had this happen to you. “Someone knocks the wind out of your sails.”

By definition, a sailboat exists because of the wind.

It gathers all its life from the breeze and is helpless when the wind disappears.

The wind stops. The sails drop.

Sailors put up sails to harvest the energy of the wind, and they take down sails when overpowered by its tremendous force.

Letting the wind beneath the sails steer the direction… To do this, the sails must be hoisted, and the stuff in the boat we are taking with us must be light… not weighed down with loads and loads of baggage.

There is so much in our lives that we allow to weigh us down, and what’s impressive is that we can eliminate most of it.

Then, it’s all smooth sailing.

Well, THAT depends on the wind too… For a little while, it will be ok to “relax” to let the wind take its course. However, after a short time, we can get panicky if the climate changes drastically.

Just like us again, smooth sailing until a familiar wind blows back again. And sailors know Gale-force winds can be dangerous. This could be someone who brings bad weather wherever they land.

Two aspects of the wind are essential when sailing: strength and direction

Palm 27 :1

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

I love a summer breeze and a cooler breeze in the evening when you relax and enjoy the night sky without dripping in sweat.

You can feel and see the effects of the wind, like in your face blowing through your hair, the swirling of dust and sand. Dancing leaves or freshly cut grass. Dandelions, flags, windmills, kites. Lake or ocean waves and snow drifts.

The wind is invisible, yet we can see and feel its effects. But we can not control it.

Sometimes, we see the after-effects of destructive wind damage. True wind and apparent wind.

True wind is what you feel when you’re standing still, and the wind is blowing. The wind on an object and how it feels when it’s in motion is apparent. Sailboats utilize both true wind and apparent wind. One force pushes the sailboat, and the other force pulls or drags it forward.

Sometimes, the wind is taken out of people’s sails by others’ actions or circumstances.

This is when we need a nudge to move ahead to get the wind back in our sails.

We’ve all had to back our sails up and trust the wind.

Sails Work – Sailing in Different Wind Conditions.

This causes the direction the boat is moving relative to the wind.

The idea is that a boat, even a large one, can be moved simply by the force of the wind.

Wind – Hebrew Word “Ruach”

Ruach (pronounced roo-akh) is the Hebrew word for spirit, breath, or wind

Wind/Greek word is pneuma

God’s Ruach is the source of life. The Ruach of God is the One who gives life to all creation.

Genesis 1:2, the Spirit of God “moving over the face of the waters,”

Moses states this truth: “God . . . gives breath [ruach] to all living things”

Job declared this truth as well: “As long as I have life within me, the breath [ruach] of God in my nostrils”

On the Day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples, it was accompanied by a sound like a “mighty rushing wind” (Acts 2:2). This wind was not just a random atmospheric condition but a divine indicator of the Holy Spirit’s arrival and the transformative power it brought.

“Four winds” in the Bible is a metaphor for the earth’s four corners or the whole world.

John 3:5-8

 Jesus explains the new birth.

Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

Most assuredly… you must be born again: Jesus was emphatic in saying that man does not need reformation but a radical conversion by the Spirit of God. We must be born of water and the Spirit.

The wind blows where it wishes: Jesus’ idea to Nicodemus was, “You don’t understand everything about the wind, but you see its effects. That is just how it is with the birth of the Spirit.” Jesus wanted Nicodemus to know that he didn’t have to understand everything about the new birth before he experienced it.

Since we can’t control the Spirit,

The wind is unseen, yet its effects are visible and tangible.

Wind Shadow

Sounds shady, right?

Sailboat racing uses this term when another boat navigates in such a way that it steals your wind. Very quickly, you go from momentum and speed to being somewhat dead in the water.

By doing this, they entered wind shadowing. This means they had no wind in their sails because it was being taken by the sails of a Sailboat

Close enough to steal their Wind.

This is the perfect example of the wind shadow technique. You probably have heard of what sailors call this  ‘dirty wind.’

Dirty wind is just another way of saying wind shadow. They both mean one boat stealing the wind off another sail’s.

This technique is exactly how the enemy of our soul steals the wind from our sail. We get too close to hearing lies we start believing that deflates us. We then become “Setting Ducks”.

Resurrection Winds Power

Ruach HaKodesh: The Holy Spirit

But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

—Romans 8:11

The Holy Spirit guides us in our spiritual journey, leading us in the right direction

Embrace the wind of the Holy Spirit and allow Him to guide you in your spiritual growth, the wind in your Sails, and journey toward God the Father’s divine direction.
