John 14:26
26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.
Over and Over, I have heard individuals say
I never knew about the Holy Spirit. As you read Chapter 19 of Acts, you’ll see that Paul found Disciples followers of Jesus, and they said the very same thing.
Act 19:1-2
And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”
We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit;
By their reply, these Ephesian disciples showed they didn’t know much about God’s nature as revealed in Jesus. They knew enough to be saved and to be students of Jesus (called disciples), but they didn’t know much about all Jesus did for us, especially in His promise to send the Holy Spirit when He ascended to heaven.
The Bible makes more than a hundred references to the Holy Spirit, and Jesus says more about the Spirit than he does about the church, marriage, finances, and the future.
But I find more Christians who do not know the Holy Spirit. Here’s a great start: allow Him to be your helper.
Oh, and that thing called tongues, and those gifts are the most tremendous help I could have ever experienced as I’ve enjoyed each aspect of the Holy Spirit in my life, and believe me, He keeps pouring out so much more.
HELPER-Jesus declares the Holy Spirit as the Helper.
Jesus is speaking to His Disciples
John 16:7-9
7 But I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I am leaving; for if I do not leave, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. 8 And He, when He comes, will convict the world regarding sin, and righteousness, and judgment: 9 regarding sin because they do not believe in Me
Jesus’ disciples were sorrowful at His words that He would be leaving them. So, Jesus knew they needed to hear their prophetic future. And that is why He went on to say what He did in verse 7: Nevertheless, I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you, but if I depart, I will send Him to you.”
Acts 1:2 Until the day He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles…
Jesus’ final instructions are the pivotal point.
Acts1:4-5 Jesus’ final instructions to the disciples. And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem:
Jesus had nothing else for the disciples to do other than to wait for the coming of the Holy Spirit (the Promise of the Father). Jesus knew they could do nothing effective for the Kingdom of God until the Spirit came.
The Holy Spirit is my helper, a gift from God to all believers. He comforts, encourages, lifts, teaches, and guides me. He is called our Helper and Comforter, Advocate, and Counselor. He is God’s Spirit inside me; He helps me to do things that please God and fulfill His purpose for my life.
The Scriptures point to the Holy Spirit as our helper. The Greek word for the Holy Spirit as our helper is Paraclete, which means “someone called to come alongside another person to help.
Holy Spirit in Hebrew: Ru•ach Ha•kó•desh
The word “ruach” appears for the first time in Gen. 1:2: (…and the spirit of God…). This word also means “wind.” The word “Kodesh” comes from the word “Kadosh,” which means “holy.”
The wind of God or the breath of God was instrumental in the creation of Genesis Chapter 1
HELPER-Jesus declares the Holy Spirit as the Helper.
The Holy Spirit helps us daily
The Holy Spirit helps us in all of these ways
- A helper comes alongside us to bear our burdens, that is, one who helps someone in their weakness regenerate our dead inner human spirit. We take Him wherever we go, and He is a part of everything we do.
- Advocate-bearing witness helps in our prayers to intercede and gives us strength and courage to be with us in our struggles.
- Comforter – endures trials with you and revives and refreshes. One who supports another and helps bear the load.
- Counselor- teaches counsels, provides assistance, support, and guidance, also by conviction when our actions would judge or condemn because of our guilt.
Holy Spirit will give you insight into the Word
He empowers you to understand and recall essential verses that apply to your life. Ask the Holy Spirit for His help as you read scripture.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. John 14:26
“I believe a generation is hungry, no, starving, to hear the truth, the whole truth about who the Holy Spirit is, from honest people who know Him, not what their religion requires.”
According to Act 1:8 … “you shall receive power.”
After the Holy Spirit comes upon you, that dynamic ability to cause change means you can never be disadvantaged or without help. Start now with the Holy Spirit, and you can be effective, for in you, the revelation of God’s word comes alive. You begin to be a bold witness to your family, your children, your husband/wife, at your job, your school, and even to a stranger because you are led by the Spirit of God no longer by empty limited emotions you’re filled and completely ready to be poured out on all that thirst for the Lord Jesus.
Acts 1, 8, we read the Lord’s words, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be My witnesses.”
Witness 81 times New Testament
1. to be a witness, to bear witness, to affirm that one has seen or heard or experienced something, or that he knows it because taught by divine revelation or inspiration.
2. to give (not to keep back) testimony
3. honorable testimony, give a good report
4..To implore
You’ll know when it is the Holy Spirit
In 1 John 4:1-5
Do“not believe every spirit, but test the spirits whether they are from God.” The true Spirit of God “confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God.” the direction of the Holy Spirit always leads to Jesus Christ.
Galatians 5:22-23 states and identifies the fruits, or characteristics, of the Holy Spirit. Each of these “fruits” is a clear sign when we “test the spirits.” He wrote, “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control
The Holy Spirit when He baptizes a believer (Acts 2:1-4).
It’s available to all (Acts 2:39) and a gift of empowerment, helping the believer to live a holy life. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, the Helper, we become more like Jesus and are directed to do the Father’s will.
Prodigal Children
But there is another purpose of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the Father God Himself.
This is to help every parent in prayer. Waiting and expecting their child’s return to the Lord Jesus.
God’s Holy Spirit seeks to draw us back to Him, and He does so through His Holy Spirit’s conviction that leads to repentance.
John 16:8 ( the Holy Spirit)
And He, when He comes, will convict the world regarding sin, and righteousness, and judgment:
When the Holy Spirit convicted David, he cried out, To God I “Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight” Psalm 51
Acts 26:18
To open their [spiritual] eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness and release from their sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified (set apart, made holy) by faith in Me.’
Luke 15:1-32, tells us the whole of the lost Son ( or daughter you’re praying for)
Luke 15:17
But when he came to himself: In his misery, the prodigal son was finally able to think clearly. that he wasn’t himself because sin controls our thinking; then he came to himself
In his rebellion and disobedience, he wasn’t himself.
Rebellion is Sin, and it changes a person’s identity quickly. The very person’s personality is controlled by the Devil’s desires, not their own.
WAIT! HE CAME TO HIMSELF, HE CHose NO LONGER TO BE HELD BY LIES( it’s called free will)
In his clear thinking, he didn’t think of how to improve conditions in the pigpen. He didn’t blame his father, his brother, his friends, his boss, or the pigs. He recognized his misery without focusing on it and instead focused on his father.
Luke 15:20
And he arose and came to his father: The prodigal first thought, but he didn’t stop at thinking. He didn’t just feel sorry and think about repenting; he did it.
But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion: The father’s love waited and never forgot. It was a love fully received, not putting the son on probation. This was especially remarkable because the son had disgraced the family by his prodigal living. But repentance creates a new heart. He was born again.
Luke 15:21
Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son.
“I have sinned against heaven and before you” shows complete repentance and a change of thinking. He didn’t think like this before; now, he did not attempt to justify or excuse his sin.
“The depth of the son’s repentance, his deep sorrow and desire to turn from it all is only a reflection of the depth and the desire of the father’s love that’s been waiting for His return.”
