The gift of a sunset that our God shares with us. His masterpiece is painted before our eyes at the end of each day. His light spreads horizontally over the horizon.
The sunset is a gift before we have another day
Webster’s dictionary- The horizon is the line at which the earth’s surface and the sky appear to meet.
As you gaze into the Horizon, it looks never-ending
H5769 עֹלָם עוֹלָם’ ôlâm
The Hebrew word olam means “beyond the horizon.” When looking off in the far distance, it is difficult to see what lies ahead, and you can’t make out any details and what is beyond that horizon that cannot be seen. This concept is the olam. It is also used for time and the distant past or future as a difficult time to know or perceive. This word is frequently translated as “eternity,” meaning a continual period of time that never ends.
From everlasting to everlasting. Forever.
The light of the Son of God (not the sun)
Colossians 1:15-16
We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created. For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank of angels—everything started in him and found its purpose in him. He was there before it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment.
The Faithfulness of our Gods displays the Rising of the Sun and its going down.
Luke 1:33
He will be great, be called ‘Son of the Highest.’ The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David; He will rule Jacob’s house forever— no end, ever, to his kingdom.”
God had no beginning (just as He will have no end); He has always existed and always will.
“The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth” (Isaiah 40:28).
The Message translation
Paints an accurate picture of a Horizon.
Psalm 19
1-2 God’s glory is on tour in the skies, God-craft on exhibit across the horizon. Madame Day holds classes every morning, and Professor Night lectures each evening.
3-4 Their words aren’t heard, their voices aren’t recorded, But their silence fills the earth: unspoken truth is spoken everywhere.
4-5 God makes a huge dome for the sun—a superdome! The morning sun’s a new husband leaping from his honeymoon bed, the breaking sun an athlete racing to the tape.
6 That’s how God’s Word vaults across the skies from sunrise to sunset, Melting ice, scorching deserts, and warming hearts to faith.
7-9 The revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together. The signposts of God are clear and point out the right road. The life maps of God are right, showing the way to joy. The directions of God are plain and easy on the eyes. God’s reputation is twenty-four-carat gold, with a lifetime guarantee. The decisions of God are accurate down to the nth degree.
10 God’s Word is better than a diamond, better than a diamond set between emeralds. You’ll like it better than strawberries in spring, better than red, ripe strawberries.
11-14 There’s more: God’s Word warns us of danger and directs us to hidden treasure. Otherwise, how will we find our way? Or know when we play the fool? Clean the slate, God, so we can start the day fresh! Keep me from stupid sins, from thinking I can take over your work; Then I can start this day sun-washed, scrubbed clean of the grime of sin. These are the words in my mouth; these are what I chew on and pray. Accept them when I place them on the morning altar, O God, my Altar-Rock, God, Priest-of-My-Alter
JESUS’s arms were held horizontally stretched out – the nails didn’t hold him there. It was his love for you and me.
See the Lord Jesus’s arms are stretched to you, asking you to decide that you will someday come for eternity, just over the horizon.
The one thief on the cross next to Jesus said;
Luke 23:42-43 Expanded Bible
42 “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
43 Jesus said to him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise (heaven the presence of God”).
Just over that horizon.
Prayer of thankfulness
Heavenly Father, thank you for your overflowing love for us, yet we were sinners. Jesus died for us John 3:16
Father, you share the beauty and splendor of each sunset; it reminds us to see beyond our limitations.
The Psalmist said it best, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.”
Open our eyes to the truth of who you are, keep us aware of your love, and awaken our hearts daily to share a sunset revelation with others.
Amen
Psalms 113:3
3 From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’S name is to be praised.
